Now days, the latest smartphones and tablets are using Android operating system. Gingerbread and Ice Cream Sandwich are the different versions of this OS. Before initiating the discussion about the gingerbread and ice cream sandwich, one should know the basic things about “Android OS.”

Each version comes with new features. Bugs and errors from the previous versions are removed. Each Android new version is alphabetically named after the name of a dessert.

2.3 Gingerbread Operating System:

Gingerbread offers many improved features to its users; e-g it supports gyroscope sensor, advanced touch keyboard and text assortment tools, NFC provision, improved user interface and its interaction with the user, VoIP/SIP calling etc. It supports multiple cameras of the smartphones, multi-touch features, advanced power management to provide good battery timing and an “end task” manager that can kill all the useless application on your single click. It can support video formats like VP8 and WebM. It provides audio effects like equalization, reverb, headphone virtualization and Bass boosting.
If you want to copy/paste the text then just tap on the text, a pointer will appear, allowing you to select the text. On long pressing the screen at the point of text, two cursors will appear allowing the user to cut/paste the text.
Android 2.3 Gingerbread has modernized UI design for plainness and efficiency. It is designed to support large screens and accordingly large resolutions. Its virtual keyboard provides speedy, accurate, precise and easy text entering and text formatting. It also supports voice input. It allows the user to do Near Field Communications. The developed download manager helps to download any type of files from the internet using your Wi-Fi or GPRS. It supports AAC audio scrambling. For the game makers it provides enhanced visual and audio effects. It supports sensors like gyroscope, manometer, magnetometer etc.
2.3 Gingerbread Vs 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich:
4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is the latest of all the Android operating systems. Powered by Google, it was publically launched on October 19, 2011. Ice Cream Sandwich has features that the old 2.3 Gingerbread lacks. Besides, new softwares and new applications it provides a very sensitive touch.
Other features include developed user interface having cybernetic buttons on it that allows the user to quick launch applications of its choice. Voice input method is also present in it. With this voice input method, your voice will be recognized and converted into text. If you are jogging or driving a car and you have received a text message from your friend, you can use voice input method to reply it.
With Ice Cream Sandwich, you can resize the widgets and can group them. you can easily create folders. It has a modifiable application launcher. Visual Voicemail function allows the user to boost up or boost down the voicemail messages. You can zoom the calendar by its “pinch-to-zoom” function. Gmail application with a two-line preview and switching between Gmail chats. Easy copy/paste of text and you can have a screenshot by holding the power and volume down buttons. High precision while writing with the virtual keyboard and high error correction function.
If you want the high security of your data then 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich provide you the facial recognition system i-e it will unlock the phone by recognizing your face. The Android beam uses NFC technology that lets you share links, contacts and other applications, by tapping two phones together.
4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich web browser supports up to 16 tabs. With the “data usage setting” in the settings menu you can set the limit of data usage and the system will give you warning when exceeded the limit. The “end task” manager can turn off any application on your single click. This function improves the RAM efficiency and processing speed.
Camera applications include built-in photo editor that lets you crop, resize, remove the red eye and include other photo effects to your photo. Other camera applications include time-lapse settings and zooming during video recording.
Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich allows multi-tasking. You can open multiple applications at the same time. But obviously, it will results in slowing down your work because of increased processing and high RAM usage.
